Red Gold donates over $20k to Indiana food charities in time for the holiday season.

Red Gold held its second annual “Run to Crush Hunger” to promote healthy and active lifestyles, while fighting hunger in Central Indiana.  The event, hosted in downtown Elwood, raised $20,425.08, benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank and The Morrisett Center Food Pantry.  Second Harvest Food Bank provides to more than 110 hunger-fighting agencies, including the Elwood Morrisett Center to fight hunger in our 8-county area.

The 5k Run and 1-mile Family Walk attracted nearly 800 participants from 76 different
cities. An outstanding sixty-two percent of the event participants visited Elwood from outside of Madison County, including many visitors from Ohio, Illinois and Michigan.  “This Madison County celebration is a popular venue, quickly becoming a prime annual running event that gives back to Indiana small towns and communities in so many ways”, said Tim Ingle, Red Gold Vice President of Human Resources.

Tim Kean, President & CEO of Second Harvest said, “We truly appreciate Red Gold’s passion and organization of the event, as well as their commitment to the food banks.  These funds are needed all year to help many in need, and Red Gold has started a great tradition.”

The Run to Crush Hunger was part of ‘Crush Hunger Saturday’, which also included the 28th annual Red Gold Chili Cook-Off and Colt’s Blue Saturday, attracting over 3000 visitors.  The second Saturday of every October will continue to be the date for this fun-filled family weekend every year.  “Crush Hunger Saturday was an eventful day for everyone who participated, and Red Gold is extremely proud to host an event with such an important cause,” said Colt Reichart, Red Gold New Media Manager.  “The participants, sponsors, community involvement and volunteers were the recipe for success.”  Special thanks go out to the Elwood police department and other city services for all of their efforts.  Be sure to log onto www.RedGold5krun.com for photos and information on next year’s event.
