Nearly 34,000 Pounds of Red Gold, Kroger Product to be Donated to Gleaners
Third Annual Indianapolis Canstruction® Competition Completed At State Fair

What:   Canstruction® is arguably the most unique food drive in the world.  The Indianapolis competition was held at this year’s state fair and featured nine giant structures built out of Red Gold and Kroger canned food products. This event will result in a donation of nearly 34,000 pounds of food, or 25,564 meals to Gleaners Food Bank.

When:   The product will be picked up at the fairgrounds at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and arrive at Gleaners at around 1 p.m..

Why:   Canstruction® puts a spotlight on the distressing fact that 36 million Americans face a daily struggle against hunger.  Here in Central Indiana approximately 213,081 Hoosiers face this plight. Since its inception, Canstruction® has helped donate ten million pounds of food in the fight against hunger.  The local charter of Canstruction®, held by Turner Construction Company, is in its third year. 

Who:   Canstruction® is a trademarked charity event of the design and construction industry produced under the auspices of the Society for Design Administration.  This Canstruction® project was supported by:

•   Red Gold was the presenting sponsor of the Year of Tomatoes at the Indiana State Fair.  Red Gold is a premier full-line tomato processing company with its corporate headquarters located in Orestes, Indiana. Red Gold produces premium quality tomato-based products for the retail, foodservice, private label and club channels of distribution.

•   Turner Construction Company is in its third year of organizing the Indianapolis Canstruction® event. Turner maintains a nationwide network of offices and a staff of more than 5,500 employees, performing work on over 1,600 projects each year.

•   Kroger, one of the nation’s largest retail grocery chains, focuses its charitable efforts on supporting hunger relief, health and wellness initiatives, and local schools and grassroots organizations in the communities it serves.

•   Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana has been serving Indiana for 29 years and has distributed more than 230 million pounds of food and critical grocery products to 400 Hunger Relief Charities that serve the people in need of emergency food assistance.
