CANNED TOMATOES ARE A SAFE ALTERNATIVE TO PRODUCE TOMATOES

As you probably have heard, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported an outbreak of Salmonella that has been traced to raw, produce tomatoes.  The source has yet to be identified.  Let us assure you that this issue does not affect canned tomato products.

There is absolutely no Salmonella risk in consuming your favorite Red Gold, Redpack, Tuttorosso or Sacramento brands because all of our products are thoroughly cooked during processing.  Red Gold tomato products are heated to temperatures well above the 145 degrees F required to kill Salmonella bacteria

Our consumers, family and friends can confidently substitute Red Gold, Redpack or Tuttorosso whole peeled and diced tomatoes into the recipes and meals that would normally call for produce tomatoes, thereby eliminating the fear of contaminating their meals with Salmonella bacteria.  Some suggestions have been to slice Red Gold canned whole peeled tomatoes for use on sandwiches and to use Red Gold canned, diced tomatoes for salads, tacos, etc.  Visit the RECIPES section of your brand to find hundreds of recipes, cooking tips and suggestions, using your favorite Red Gold tomato product.
