Why not try something unexpected this weekend…still using the grill…still not firing up the kitchen oven and roasting more than your dinner J…and enjoy a grilled pizza! You’ll need your grill of course, heated to 350°-450°, and a pizza stone, placed on the hot grill for at least 15 minutes.
On a lightly floured work surface, roll out either homemade pizza dough or dough made from a mix into a circle about ⅓ inch thick and 12 inches in diameter. Transfer the rolled out dough onto a rimless baking sheet.
Now, the fun begins. First, top that dough with about ½ cup of sauce…Red Gold Gourmet Pizza Sauce is ideal…then, start layering your favorite toppings: Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, drained Red Gold Petite Diced Tomatoes and ah,yes….cheese, lots of it!
The next trick is to carefully slide your pizza onto the preheated pizza stone (remember, it is already on the grill). When the very front edge of the dough grips the outer edge of the stone, slowly pull the baking sheet toward you and the entire pizza will plop itself securely on the stone! Ok, close the lid and don’t peak (we mean this!) for nine to eleven minutes. Remove your finished pizza from the grill with an extra-large spatula, and let it rest for a few minutes before cutting it. Enjoy this crispy crust pizza!
